Exciting News: Son of Osivirius by Cathryn DeVries is LIVE on Kickstarter!

On Kickstarter 'til July 10th, 2025 at 10:30 PM MST (for US folks) ~ @_eclecta_perennial (Cathryn DeVries) 's new science fantasy novella (with flying cats!) Son of Osivirius!!

The story features a favorite trope of the author's - when a jerk un-jerks himself. The story's vibe is a cross between James Cameron’s Avatar and The Last Samurai, or maybe Fern Gully, with something of a Zuko arc thrown in. Think:

    ❤️‍🔥Enemies to lovers
    🙋1st person dual POV
    😻Giant flying cats
    🧠Mind-linking
    🌆Corrupt leadership
    🌿Homesteading
    ❌Clashing loyalties

    Here’s the BLURB:

The newly colonized planet of Osivirius is a place where random EMP blasts are the bane of technology. Jayden, one of the first generation to be born there, has worked hard to be a pilot. He’s determined to get his family out of ‘Wormsville’, the part of the colony where people are little more than numbers, so when Commander Tun offers a huge reward for finding the location of the rebel base, he jumps at the chance.

Nettle hates everything to do with the colony—especially the military arm—and is fiercely protective of the simple, grounded ways of the rebels. So when she and her brother Flint discover Jayden after he crash-lands, she’s ready to slit his throat without a second thought. As her brother nurses him back to health though, Nettle’s antipathy turns to empathy, then an unwanted attraction.

Jayden, meanwhile, has made secret plans to escape on a Masu, one of the giant flying cats the rebels ride, but when Flint is badly injured and his chance to escape presents itself, Jayden feels torn, and when he returns to the rebel base, he discovers his growing feelings for Nettle are reciprocated. Jayden must now decide where his loyalties truly lie, and the kind of life he really wants to live.
