Writing Tips: Turning an Idea into Reality

On and off I've mentioned that I've been helping a friend with his book. It's not a long book - more a nice sit-down length of about 30,000 words - so, about 160 pages the way it formatted for a 6in x 9in book. How do I know this? Because I had the honor of formatting his book. Getting to that point wasn't easy. I struggled to understand - even with YouTube videos and talking to folks - how to take a Word document and turn into a file that would agree with KDP.  Then a friend from Realm Makers mentioned a program on his Instagram. The same program was mentioned by another Realmie - and then another! The key words for me were easy and works with PC.

When I looked into the program, I heaved a huge sigh of relief as things I'd struggled with in formatting Word were simplified. I could do this. I could help my friend finish his book! Piece by piece the manuscript went from an idea to a reality. I could hardly believe it! No more smacking my head on my desk!

The moral of the story - the main point of this tip - when you volunteer to help a friend, other friends may give you just what you need without their knowing it. Be listening! God is good :)

PS- The program is called Atticus, and you can click here if you want to take a look.

PPS- My friend John Snider's book Jack Swapper will hopefully become available for purchase next month. (Just taking time to go through a proof copy to make 100% sure things are right before asking anyone to purchase.) Also, this book is more for adults than children since there is a little bit of language. Although, you could read it like my one fourth grade teacher did Gary Paulsen's Hatchet and just make up funny words for the cuss words ;)

Hope you enjoyed this month's Writing Tip!
